It's time...

A woman cries in the destroyed city of Natori. (Asahi Shimbun via Reuters)

Father, let not our hearts become calloused to the cries of those who mourn and the shock of those left to pick up the pieces of their lives. Rather, may our hearts be tender towards meeting the needs of those who are separated by the miles. - Borrowed from Crosswalk via Facebook

Seeing the images of the desolation and despair the earthquake and tsunami left behind is heartbreaking. Knowing that there are thousands mourning lost loved ones, in confusion, and who have lost everything really puts my problems in perspective. How small and petty are my worries? How ridiculous it is to worry about the things that are so mundane?

Seeing the images of devastation really puts the brakes on the pity parties, the selfish tendencies, and the careless words. It's time to pray, people. It's time to be the voice crying out for mercy for those who have suffered so much. It's time to put others needs before our own. It's time for compassion and love. It's time to be Jesus to the world.

Every little bit helps. Every prayer sent and every dollar given makes a difference in the lives of others. If you haven't already, would you consider donating to the American Red Cross? You can also donate $10 to the American Red Cross by texting REDCROSS to 90999. We can be Jesus to the world, even if it seems a world away.
