It's not safe. Taking chances is just not safe. Taking risks is not safe. Life is not safe.
I read this excerpt (taken from He Still Moves Stones) this morning in Max Lucado's, Grace for the Moment:
There is a rawness and a wonder to life. Pursue it. Hunt for it. Sell out to get it. Don't listen to the whines of those who have settled for a second-rate life and want you to do the same so they won't feel guilty. Your goal is not to live long; it's to live.
Jesus says the options are clear. On one side there is the voice of safety. You can build a fire in the hearth, stay inside, and stay warm and dry and safe...
Or you can hear the voice of adventure--God's adventure. Instead of building a fire in your hearth, build a fire in your heart. Follow God's impulses. Adopt the child. Move overseas. Teach the class. Change careers. Run for office. Make a difference. Sure it isn't safe, but what is?

Isn't that how life is meant to be lived? We aren't here so that we can live long. We are meant to LIVE. We may take some hard knocks along the way. We may even have to struggle to climb to the top. But, wouldn't it be worth it to live the adventure with God? I mean really live. Sometimes that means taking chances...God-risks. Maybe that means taking the road less traveled. Maybe that means doing what everyone else deems insane. Maybe that means leaving a secure job to follow God's call. Our lives can stay on the up side where everything seems relatively calm, or we can take the plunge into what God has called us to do and it will absolutely take our breath away! Riding with God is a wild adventure. A wonderful, crazy, heart-racing adventure. It's not safe.
:) Becky
